Fruity Red Sangria
Fruity Red Sangria
Even those Spaniards who shrug sangria off as a tourist drink would certainly change their mind upon tasting this delicious sangria potion. This Spanish sangria recipe will make a medium-size pitcher and serve six, and will add pizzazz to any tapas bash!

Ingredients:
1 bottle inexpensive dry Spanish red wine
1/2 cup triple sec
1/4 cup brandy
1 1/2 cups fresh orange juice
1/4 cup Simple Syrup** or superfine sugar
1 1/2 cups diced fruit, such as green apples (peeled) and oranges and lemons (diced with their peels)
Ice cubes
Chilled club soda
Preparation:
Mix together the wine, Triple Sec, brandy, orange juice, simple syrup, and fruit in a medium-size pitcher. Refrigerate for 4 to 6 hours to macerate the fruit in the wine. When ready to serve, add the ice cubes, and club soda to taste. Taste for sweetness, adding more syrup, as necessary.
Simple Syrup**
Ingredients:
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup water
Preparation:
Place the sugar and water in a small saucepan and bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Simmer for 3 to 4 minutes. Alternatively, combine the sugar and water in a microwave-safe container and microwave on high for 4 minutes. Refrigerate to cool completely.
*Makes about 3/4 cup
